Frequently Asked Questions
Where can I buy Fushigi Yuugi subbed/dubbed online?
There are about ten billion places where you can get these.
If you have a local anime store, it's always a good idea to check there
first before ordering online. Obviously, FY is available direct from the distributor,
Pioneer Animation, and you can check out the
Anime Web Turnpike: Online Stores
section
for tons of places where you can order them.
Where can I get the FY OAV?
Pioneer also is the distributor for the
Fushigi Yuugi OAVs, so you get them the same place as the TV anime. See the
answer to the above question, because the answer to this is exactly the
same! ^v^
What's this I've heard about a third FY OAV?
Yes, very recently a third Fushigi
Yuugi OAV series entitled "Eikou Den", was released. It's based off of the
Gaiden, or novels, of the same name, and is about Miaka and Taka's married
life as well as the arrival of their first child. There are a total of four
episodes, and
Pioneer has now
brought it on over to North American shores, so you can purchase the DVD at
their online store.
You keep mentioning about how we should
support the show by buying licensed products. How much FY merchandise do you
actually own?
A lot, actually. I own all 18 volumes of the
original
Japanese released manga, all of the
CD soundtracks,
the unofficial
Fushigi Yuugi fansub on VHS, the
Pioneer-licensed
Fushigi Yugi Suzaku and Seiryu DVD box sets,
the Pioneer licensed
Oni OAV DVD box, the Pioneer-licensed
special edition (including pencil boards)
Eiko
Den OAV box, the English-language
Fushigi Yugi hardcover artbook by Viz, and I'll probably be
picking up the
English-language manga by Viz in the near
future. So I do practice what I preach. ^_^
How did you see FY before it was released in North
America?
Simple. Fushigi Yuugi came out in Japan (well, it IS a
Japanese anime!) long before it was ever scheduled to appear in North America. Actually,
it's pretty old news over there (it came out in 1995). I got ahold of the Japanese
version online in fansub form, which appeared that same year. Oh geez, I can see it
coming now: "what is a fansub?". Go to the
Fushigi Yuugi Fansubs page for more
information if you don't know.
Can you pretty please with sugar on top trade your
fansubs?
Gomen, gomen! But I absolutely, 100% can NOT trade these
with you! Since it has been licensed by Pioneer, FY can no longer be traded as a fansub.
Support Pioneer's North American release of FY by ordering from them.
What is an OAV?
*Piku piku* Well, you could always look in the
OAV section, where it tells you right there in the first line
of the first paragraph. But, for those of you who are too lazy to look something up (I'd
probably fall into that category! ^_~) here you are: O.A.V. is an acronym for Original
Animated Video. Plain and simple, it's anime that's released directly to video without
ever airing on TV.
Who is Taka?
Hmmmm . . . I may have to cry or something. This happens to
be pretty much right beneath the nose. Go to the
OAV Main
Character section for your answer.
Why didn't you write a character description for
Nuriko/Mitsukake/Hotohori/Chiriko for the OAVs?
A pretty good reason, really. These characters all die in
the main television series, so when the OAV occurs, there's no more room for further
character development for them (ie. they're all developed to their greatest potential in
the TV series). The descriptions of them in the main
Character
Pages are pretty much complete, so take a look at them if you're curious. The
characters who are still alive (Miaka, Taka, Yui, Chichiri, and Tasuki) all continue to
grow and change throughout the OAV, and so further descriptions of them are provided. Any
stories involving Nuriko-tachi focus more on their families or how others dealt with their
deaths, and so descriptions of these new characters are available on the
OAV New Characters page.
Where can I get Fushigi Yuugi merchandise?
If you have a local anime store, that's usually the
first (and best) place to look. For a huge whoppin' list of online anime
stores, visit the
Anime Web Turnpike: Online Stores section.
Can you provide more images of (insert character
here)?
Hope this doesn't sound too boastful (cause I really don't
mean it that way!) but you're going to be pretty hard pressed to find too many images,
aside from black and white manga scans or screencaps, that aren't in my gallery. There
simply aren't any more images available online for you to look at! And really, the 400+
images SHOULD be enough for you! Aiyaa!!
Wow! Song lyrics AND translations,
with the CDs translated, too! Can you upload some MP3s and sounds for any of
the songs, or just from the show?
Sorry, but no. First of all, I don't have any
Fushigi Yuugi MP3s, because I own all of those CDs - and, I don't plan on
looking for any MP3s, as they're pretty much useless to me. Secondly, they
take up waaaaayy too much space, and my site's already humongous due to so
much information and so many images in the gallery. It's also important to
mention that this site's home -
AS Webhosting - won't allow me to host
MP3s due to issues with space and bandwidth. And, I might as well mention
that there are better places to go looking for MP3s than here - this is for
the most part an information guide for FY, so why look for music here?
Either visit an
anime/FY MP3
site, or look for them on a MP3 sharing program such as EDonkey, Kazaa, or
LimeWire.
I want to ask you a question about the series, but
it's a spoiler. Is it all right to ask you?
*Laughs* It's absolutely unnecessary to worry about spoiling
any of FY for me. I've seen the whole thing: lock, stock, and barrel. So, ask away
without concern! I don't think there's too much you could possibly spoil me on.
I can't find this information on your
site! Where the heck is the page I want located?
The page is pretty big, so it's entirely
possible you got lost while looking for the information you want. Before
e-mailing me to ask where a page is/if I have a particular page, please
visit my site Navigation Map - it has my entire
site layout organized for you, with descriptions of where everything is
found. Take a look in here to see if you can find what you're looking for -
if not, then go ahead and send an e-mail my way. ^v^
What are the translated titles of the FY songs?
Instead of having me rattle off all 62 song
titles, please just click into the song title you're curious about. It's
translated right at the top of the page. *Sweatdrop*
I want to use something from your
page. Do I need your permission?
That depends what it is you're asking for. I've outlined
most of my guidelines in the Policy
section. Please read it - it is extremely important to me that you follow my
guidelines on what may and may not be used from this site.
You sound like you're really hot! Can
I be your boyfriend?
Believe it or not, I have received this
question from more than one male FY fan. ^^;; I'm going to be very blunt
when I say I am absolutely, 100% not interested in having you as my
boyfriend. Just because we have something in common in that we both like FY
does not mean we'd make a wonderful couple. Besides, you have one very huge
obstacle in that I am already married. Let's just say I don't plan giving my husband
up anytime soon for someone on the Internet whom I don't even know. I'm too
busy with real life to be a repository of sympathy for desperate and lonely
males out there. -_-;;
What other anime series have you seen?
So many that you'd be scared if I told you. Actually,
I do
have them listed, so for the truly curious, go to the
Complete Anime That I've Seen list!
(*Gasps* She's seen that many?! What a freak!).
Is your question one that isn't
answered here? Head on over to the

the answer.
