Fushigi Yuugi OAV Main Characters
Miaka Yuuki
Miaka
is a young woman and high school student, passing her entrance
exams and now attending Yotsubadai High School. Miaka is a lot
more serious and strong, learning a good deal from her adventures
as Suzaku No Miko in the "Shi Jin Ten Chi Sho". She faces
difficulties with wisdom gained from experience; no longer
concerning herself with trivialities such as food or being
spoiled. Miaka works hard for her goals, with a bravery and
persistence that had formerly not been a part of her. She is
self-sacrificing and giving; displaying open courageousness and
inner strength when stepping up to a challenge. Miaka is patient
and clear-headed, keeping in mind what is important to her, and
accepts with kindness and understanding the hardships she and her
friends must endure. She devotes herself to the quest of getting
back Taka’s memory globes; bringing back not only the precious
remembrances but also peace to both worlds. She loves Taka and all
of her friends dearly, using the strength of the people she cares
about to spur herself into doing her best. Miaka once again faces
a great destiny as Suzaku No Miko, devoting her life to the
salvation and protection of both the book world and the real
world; where the people she loves exist.
Taka Sukunami

Height: 180cm (5'10")
Blood type: O

Taka
is the reincarnation of Tamahome in the real world, who is a
freshman at K University, the same college Keisuke and Tetsuya attend.
He also belongs to the same history study group as Keisuke. While
Taka seems richer than his previous life, in this life he is still
attached to money. Taka gave
up all of his memories and powers, which were sealed into globes,
in order to cross worlds and be with Miaka. All he has to go on is
a very faint recollection of existing in a past life; that he
protected Miaka and loves her. Taka is like a more mature version
of Tamahome, retaining the courage and loyalty of his, while
losing some of the temper and sparkle of his earlier days. Taka
tries his best to protect Miaka, but has a harder time due to the
loss of his powers; in fact, more often than not, Taka is the one
who needs protecting. Taka deals admirably with a very difficult
situation, having nothing to rely on save his love for Miaka. He
experiences sadness and shortcoming in his inability to remember
anything, but still keeps going, never giving up the hope that
someday he’ll get back what was lost to him. Taka loves Miaka with
all of his heart, always trying to do what’s best for her, and
remaining a faithful and caring friend to everyone. He wears his
wedding ring on a chain around his neck.
Yui Hongo
Yui,
also now going to Yotsubadai High School, is again the true, loyal
friend of Miaka, who would stay by her through all crises. Yui is
a great deal stronger from the difficult ordeal she had to endure
in the book. She has let her hair grow long and possesses an
attitude of serene self-confidence that simply wasn’t a part of
her before. Yui is much happier, with faith in herself and her
friends; and she would do anything to help Miaka and Taka stay
together. She is also now a couple with Tetsuya, becoming his
girlfriend, and staying with him and Keisuke a lot more often. Yui
has grown up a lot, becoming a very capable, courageous woman;
with the strength to see what is important in life and deal with
the blows it can deliver. She has lost the naiveté that marked her
earlier days, no longer possessing jealousy or childlike feelings.
Instead, Yui carries herself with the fortitude, poise, and
responsibility of an adult, while remaining the best friend and
confidante of Miaka.
Chichiri
Chichiri
is his usual wise, calm self. Once again, he makes the intelligent
decisions for the group, and solves a lot of the emotional
difficulties that are now rather waging a war around him. Chichiri
manages to keep all of his friends in a collective, working team,
easing the tensions that have slowly built up over time and
calming the powerful tides of feeling that threaten to break
loose. Chichiri, more than ever before, provides the elder
guidance and leadership necessary to solving the problems and
winning the battle everyone finds themselves engaged in. He
manages to keep a calm, cool, straightforward head; not being
swayed by the dilemmas around him, and helping his friends make it
through their own troubles while retaining their sanity. Only
towards the end of the series does Chichiri begin to have feelings
of self-doubt and worthlessness, believing that he did not deserve
his position as a Suzaku Seishi, a protector of Suzaku No Miko.
Chichiri then begins to distance himself from the others, staying
in the background and torturing himself with guilt and depression.
Then, it is up to Miaka and the others to take their turn to help
Chichiri, bringing him out of his sad state back into his usual
kind, supportive self.
Tasuki
Tasuki
is one of the characters who has changed the most, and provides a
good deal of emotional drama and conflict. He discovers something
strange about himself that he believed was impossible - he is
falling in love with a woman, and that woman is Miaka. Tasuki
finds himself irresistibly drawn to Miaka with an overpowering
attraction that surprises even himself, but buries his feelings
under a wall of tormented guilt, where they threaten to burst
free. Tasuki is shocked by the power and strength of his desire,
but has no idea how to express such emotions; he is in a constant
restrained confusion due to his frustrated attempts to deal with
his feelings and sexuality. Tasuki, who always maintained the
virtue of loyalty between friends to the utmost degree, suddenly
encounters a great about-face in his beliefs when he realizes he
possesses roiling jealousy towards Taka. Tasuki is torn between
his best friend and the woman he is in love with, and fumbles in
trying to deal with the pressures of such a situation. For the
first time in his life Tasuki experiences fierce loneliness and
envy; only he is in such emotional pain over two people he cares
deeply about. Tasuki, usually bright and optimistic, becomes full
of repressed sadness, rage, and disappointment over his inability
to express the love that exists inside of him. |
