Fushigi Yuugi OAV I Storyline

A quiet, dark night has fallen on the city of Tokyo; there is not a sound over the silent city. In the National Library, however, light footsteps echo in the Important Documents Reference Room. A single book, the "Shi Jin Ten Chi Sho", is removed from the shelf.

It is a lightly rainy day when Miaka, Tamahome, Keisuke, and Tetsuya board a train and head out to Morioka, to visit the grave of Suzuno Oosugi, Byakko No Miko. As the group heads out to the countryside, they are picked up by Toki, who takes them to his family’s plot in the graveyard. As Miaka wanders among the graves, she muses about how she and the Byakko No Miko were so alike. The only difference was that Tamahome had made a miracle for her; he had crossed worlds with the power of his love. If the miracle had not been possible, however, she would have shared a fate exactly like Suzuno’s.

The group stands and silently watches Suzuno’s grave in the light drizzle. Tamahome, however, has an odd feeling in his mind. Continuously, over and over again, he hears a voice calling out to him, begging him for his help. Miaka and the others decide to move on and visit the grave of the Genbu No Miko, Takiko Okuda. As Tamahome takes a step towards the grave, however, he is suddenly surrounded by red light. Miaka, turning around, notices too late Tamahome’s predicament, and runs towards him, fingers outstretched. Before she can reach him, Tamahome disappears completely in the red flash of blinding light.

Miaka, grief stricken, collapses in the rain. Keisuke and Tetsuya can only pick her up and carry her home.

Tamahome, meanwhile, wakes up in a wet alleyway. He soon realizes he has been pulled back into the world of the "Shi Jin Ten Chi Sho", and is, in fact, back home in Konan Country. But, something about this Konan seems a little strange. Unsure of what has happened since he left, Tamahome decides to visit the Royal Palace, in search of some answers.

Miaka lies in her room, depressed and ill, while Keisuke, Tetsuya, and Yui gather and discuss the new developments in the book. Much to their surprise, they hear that the Important Documents Reference Room was burned in a fire, and the "Shi Jin Ten Chi Sho" removed beforehand. They soon discover that a new Miko is being called into the book, erasing the first Miko, the Genbu No Miko, from existence. Unless the problem is stopped, Miaka and Yui will eventually disappear as well.

Back in Konan, the palace is not how Tamahome remembers at all. Tamahome tries to convince the young Emperor that his identity truly was a Suzaku Seishi, but learns he cannot enter the Shrine of Suzaku. After a shocking and discouraging encounter with the guards, Tamahome is banished from Konan. In confusion, he turns to his only other alternative - Mount Taikyoku, where Taiitsu-kun lives. Upon traveling there, he realizes that he cannot even enter the mountains. But, Tamahome’s biggest shock is in store for him when, turning around, he meets a strange girl who calls him her Lord "Nakago". Nakago’s "kokoro" symbol gleams in a blue flash from his forehead; and Tamahome is completely at a loss to what is in store for him in this new chapter in the book.
